Pollinator Meadowscape Project

This project aims to link natural spaces, specifically meadows, with pollinators and community gardens.  We plan to engage the community in planting projects that couple native wildflower meadows with existing food producing gardens.  We will offer a suite of planting events, educational workshops and environmental activities that demonstrate the role of pollinators and their link to our food sources and the environment.

Three year project deliverables will include:

  • one meadow restoration
  • two community demonstrations gardens, and
  • a minimum of 22 pollinator habitat installations.

These three components will provide habitat to important pollinator species, and help to educate the public and reinforce why meadows, native plants and pollinators are important to our livelihoods.

Toronto and Region Conservation was successful in securing $88,000 over three years from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in April 2013.  To ensure a successful project, we engaged the following experienced collaborative partners:

Town of Ajax
Native Plants in Claremont
Community Development Council Durham
Durham Sustain Ability
